Celebrating Love

February is the month of love. With the arrival of the most romantic holiday of the year, Valentine’s day, everyone feels light, airy, and heartfelt. While I love Valentine’s day, it’s not the most romantic day. February 20th will always be the day that I associate with filling my heart with happiness. February 20th 2005 was the day I married my best friend.

Without going through our whole love story, I’ll give some of the juicy details. We met online at the beginning of May of 2000. No, not through one of those dating sites. It was actually through a music forum site. We didn’t like each other. Well, I didn’t like him, and he claims that he knew pretty much right away that I was too special to treat like any other girl. We became friends. I was 18 and he was 19, so being friends was the only thing that was really on the agenda. I was leaving for basic training in a few months, so a boyfriend wasn’t in the cards, especially one that lived 2 states away. He ended up being one of the best friends I’d ever have. We talked daily, laughed until our stomachs hurt, and found that we had many of the same values. By the end of the summer, we had fallen in love. It was deep, amazing, and a bit painful. I had to leave for training soon and was torn. This was the first time I’d fallen in love with a man, not a boy, and it wasn’t from being face to face. But I knew that I loved him, with all of my heart.

To make a long story short (too late), we made it work. We stayed together through my training, schooling and even through a deployment after 9/11. It really was true love. So, on February 20th, 2005, I was nervous. Was this the happily ever after I was meant to have? Then the doors opened before I walked down the aisle and I saw him. I immediately knew this was right and he was a blessing. His clean shaven face and nervous but excited demeanor told me that he’d just realized the same thing. Thanks to YesVideo, we’re now able to view our wedding video without having to pull out the VCR, and even our daughter has become obsessed with watching it. It’s a fairytale come true for her. “Princess Mommy” marries a handsome prince, who just happens to be her Dad. For a little girl who loves stories where dreams come true, this really is the ultimate love story. It is for me too. With 9 years of marriage, 2 kids (and one on the way) and lots of amazing memories, I can say, truly, that February 20th will always be the day when love bloomed.
